Frequently Asked Questions

Question

I carry a concealed weapon, and I'm licensed to do so. Why would I need to take these classes?

Answer

Experts know and agree that if you carry a firearm, it is NOT your first "go to" defense. What if you're leaving a place that doesn't allow firearms and you're attacked? YOU CANNOT, I REPEAT CANNOT TAKE A FIREARM everywhere you go. Your first line of defense will always be your hands, arms, feet, knees, improvised weapons, etc. DO NOT get sucked into the false sense of indestructibility because you carry a sidearm, pepper spray, taser or huge can of wasp spray. This is why WE ARE the "go to" for training for Law Enforcement, Government Contractors and Civilians, because unlike the delusional, they and we understand the realities of a real quick, violent attack.

Question

Can I start on any day or do I need to make an appointment?

Answer

You can begin any time, we just ask that you arrive 15-20 minutes early to fill out a waiver.

Question

Why are your prices so much lower than other schools in the valley?

Answer

We are an independent school, not a franchise. This means that we do not need to charge extra to make up for the money that would be paid to a federation.

Question

I heard from other schools that your instructors are all trained from video lessons and have no true instructor-based training?

Answer

This is absolutely false. Our head instructor/owner has trained under some of the most respected masters in the world. If you would like to see for yourself, feel free to sit in on a class. When you see the skill level demonstrated by our instructors any claims of "video-mimicking" will be an afterthought.

Question

What real-life experiences do you have in regards to the techniques you teach?

Answer

Our head instructor/owner has trained in martial arts for over 30 years. He has trained for his own self-preservation as a bodyguard, bail enforcement agent, and property repossession agent. In 2010 he was named " Krav Maga Instructor of the Year-USA by the International Black Belt Association. Many self-defense instructors have only trained in controlled environments and have not come face-to-face with an attacker. While our instructor has had to use the techniques, he teaches to defend himself from various attacks including those involving guns and knives.

Question

How long does it take to become proficient in the techniques you teach so I can be confident that I can defend myself?

Answer

Every individual has a different learning curve. Training twice a week and being fully-committed to what you are being taught results typically in being proficient in non-weapon based attacks in a few months. Our students learn weapon defense along with hand-to-hand tactics from the beginning. However, the technicalities of weapon defense generally take students a bit longer to become proficient compared to hand-to-hand tactics.

Question

Do I need to be in peak physical condition to begin training?

Answer

Absolutely not, we proudly teach individuals of varying fitness levels. We focus on technique in each of our sessions, and our students work with various partners to be able to adapt to different body types and sizes. However, being physically fit is always a plus in all aspects of life.

Question

I see you offer private instruction along with group classes. Should I do a couple of private lessons before joining group classes?

Answer

We recommend that new students try a group class first. If you feel overwhelmed after your first few group classes, then you may want to consider private instruction. We have students that have done private lessons before starting group classes, and we also have students who began with group classes but felt one-on-one instruction would be better suited for them. Some of our students partake in both private and group lessons. Whatever you decide, we will strive to make your learning environment as comfortable and beneficial as possible.

Question

I see all students are required to sign a waiver for liability reasons. What if I get injured at home or work outside of classes?

Answer

If injured outside of the school we will freeze your membership for up to 90 days with no questions asked. Beyond 90 days we do ask for a doctor's note.

Question

Do I have to buy equipment from your school or am I allowed to bring my own?

Answer

Please feel free to bring your personal equipment as long as it is safe and does not risk causing harm to our instructors or other students.

Question

What should I wear to class?

Answer

Comfortable/standard workout clothing is appropriate for the class. Be sure to wear something that you will not mind possibly being stretched or torn. Please do not wear tank tops or spaghetti straps. For men, it is strongly suggested that you wear a cup.
